Company Hunting

Last June 21,2008, my friends and I were frolicking in the locale where one can see corporations here and there. It was the day that we scheduled for our company hunting as a requirement of two of our major subjects this semester.

The day before, we were discussing who should go where, as five of us were in the same group. We decided that if we divide the group into two we can cover more grounds or in a literal term, we can visit more companies for the next day. As the day finally ended, the first group, comprised of Angel and Kate (the gogo-girls) are going to check out the companies in the Uyanguren area while the second group consisting of Vanessa, Karren and yours truly (demure chikas) will be checking out the establishments in the Quirino area. The reason for choosing such locations is that we can be able to visit the chosen corporations after our classes or even at our break or lunch time because it just a near ride away from the university that we are studying at.

A cloudy Saturday afternoon welcomed us the next day and as the clock chimed 1:00 pm, my group and I were already outside the MTC Academy. When we entered the said establishment, I saw a schoolmate namely Richard Daliba surfing the net. He told us to just ask the receptionist for the name of the owner of the academy, whom we will address our request to. MTC Academy, as my other friends would describe it, is the leading medical transcription center in the city. And it was for this reason we made the said company our number one choice. After we asked for the name of the owner, we left and ate snacks.

While on the Uyangyren area, Angel and Kate were immediately declined by the guard of Sutherland. He said that they aren't finished in building the all the departments of their company so they can't really entertain researchers at this early stage of their company. Because of this disapproval, Angel and Kate went to GCOM. They were told that the HR department of the said establishment is located in Manila, so if they want to continue the research they will have to leave a letter yet it will not ensure the cooperation of the company.

We all decided to meet each other at Gaisano Mall to have our snacks and talk about what we went through all day. As we sat down and ate, we listed other companies that we would visit.
Having are stomachs filled, we were again ready for the long walks and talks with our prospective companies. We went inside Metro Plaza, the one in front of Gaisano Mall. We asked the guard if they have an HR department but sadly (or should I say hilariously), he said that they only sell flat screen TV's and not HR whatever. From the mall, we walked (gas is high, so is the fare.. hahaha) towards LYR in Acacia. We went directly to their HR Manager, Mr. Carlito Llano. He was very busy that time so we thought that he can't entertain us. But after a few moments, he asked us on our purpose in going to LYR. When we said we need a company to as a subject for our study in our Human Resource Management subject, he became enthusiastic and started to tell us that he could be of service. Not only is he an HR manager in LYR, he is also a tutor about human resource. He even conducts seminars about it, so he agreed to have us as his students.
And at that very instant he started teaching us about what an HR manager does, how their company operates and what are the definition of a job analysis and job design. When we left we were already decided to make LYR our chosen company. Yet, we also tried to go to PLDT, sadly because it was a Saturday, no one was there to entertains. So we went to People's Park to relax.
It was the end of our day and we were quite satisfied on how things went.
